The purpose of Take Back the Tap is to end the sale of bottled water on the campus of Central Michigan University by encouraging students, faculty, and staff to use tap water and reusable bottles instead of buying bottled water. Take Back the Tap highlights the social, economic, and environmental problems with bottled water and aims to raise awareness of the consequences of the use of bottled water. Take Back the Tap is a part of a nationwide campaign run by Food and Water Watch, a non-profit organization working with grassroots organizations to create an economically and environmentally viable future.

Hi, Tappers! Hope you all have had a nice Easter. Here’s what we’ve been up to – get excited! :D

-Derek Forgie from MTV Canada will be here on Friday, April 20, at 4 pm. If you volunteered to work on advertising (we need lots of help!!) please get started on your task if you haven’t done so already. Melissa is making the Facebook event, Alysha working on flyers in the residence halls, etc. We’ve secured Brooks 176 for this event.

-T-shirts are ordered! As soon as they arrive, they will be brought to our meeting. Please bring your money ($10) if you would like one! They say ‘Take Back the Tap’ on the front and the back has a faucet and water droplet with the words ‘I’d Tap That’

-Don’t forget!! ELECTIONS are tomorrow evening! If you have any questions about the positions or what they entail, don’t hesitate to ask! Positions include: president, vice president, SGA representative, secretary, treasurer, and fundraising chair! Please prepare a little ‘speech’ on why you would like this position so that we may take a vote.

-We have some upcoming presentations this week! I believe they have been covered, but just for safety, here’s what they are: Phi Alpha Delta on Sunday, April 22nd, at 6 pm in Lake Huron and St. Clair rooms of the UC. Also, Phi Sigma Phi can have us on Sunday, April 15th, at 6pm in Grawn 212.

Hey, Tappers! Don’t forget to join us for our weekly meeting tonight in Brooks 201 at 7 pm. We’ve got lots of exciting things going on that you don’t want to miss! Here’s a quick recap:

-We’re getting new shirts! They will be ordered by the end of this week, so keep in mind that if you’d like to get one, please watch for the e-mail letting you know when they’re available so you can bring money to the meeting. They will be sky blue with navy writing. The traditional Food and Water Watch Take Back the Tap logo will be on the front. The back will have a faucet with the phrase ‘I’d tap that.’ Woohoo!

-Our fundraiser with Stella & Dot Jewelry is still going on! Keep that in mind this weekend if you are visiting with family for Easter. There is still time for them to order by phone, online, or in the catalogue.

-Don’t forget that as part of SEA’s Earth Week, Derek Forgie, an MTV Canada comedian, will be joining us at CMU on April 20th! We need to start our advertising efforts this week! If you signed up for a task, please get this done as soon as possible. If you would like to be involved with the advertising (which we would love everyone to do!) please let us know.

-Also for Earth Week, we will be showing Michigan at Risk: Water Trouble which is a documentary that is locally based. At this film screening, you can bring your e-waste and it will be recycled!

See you all tonight! J

Hey, Tappers! We’ll be seeing you shortly this evening, but here’s a quick rundown of our last meeting.

-First of all, thank you to everyone who made our fundraiser at Riverwood Bowling Alley last Thursday a success! We raised about $100.

-Anna and Justin, President and Vice President candidates who are running in the upcoming SGA election will be giving a quick presentation at tonight’s meeting. This our chance to ask them specific questions and ask them what they will be doing for the sustainability of CMU. Keep in mind, neither of them voted for our legislation in the SGA senate last night.

-We’d still love to have anyone interested in committees step up! Presentations, petitions, Earth week crew – you name it, we need help!

-Last night in the Senate, our legislation was passed with an amendment, removing the part about the student body supporting our movement to ban the sale of bottled water. This will be reviewed and amended by a joint committee in the next few weeks. We will be discussing this in greater detail tonight so make sure you come to the meeting to get all the details.

-UAEM gave us a great presentation last week and we are excited to pair with them in the future, especially for their health conference this spring!

-Don’t forget about our water bottles! SFSL and TBTT have paired to bring the students of CMU awesome BPA free, aluminum water bottles in three different colors for just $5! Let us know if you would the like the order form in PDF format to print off and carry around. Ordering online is also possible! The water bottles came in last week and are really nice!

-Don’t forget to keep collecting petition signatures! Every bit helps. If you need some petitions I will send you the PDF for you to print off as many as you’d like.

-Lastly, TBTT has decided to continue last years tradition of TBTT goes on spring break! This is a photography contest open to any CMU student. They need to place our sticker on their reusable water bottle, take a photograph of it wherever they are on spring break, upload the picture to Facebook, and tag TBTT. We will then vote on the best picture at our meeting after spring break and the winner gets a prize (to be determined)! This is a great chance for us to get our name out there and cover CMU’s campus with our logo. If you need stickers for friends interested – let me know!

See you tonight J

Happy Valentine’s Day, Tappers! <3

I know many people may have plans tonight, but we will still be meeting at 7 pm in Brooks 201! We have a lot to discuss so please join us if you can. J

Here’s a few updates:

-First of all, our fundraiser is THIS Thursday at Riverwood Bowling Alley! Invite as many people as you can and sell those 50/50 tickets! We will be selling our SFSL water bottles there, as well. There are many events going on this Thursday, including the TOM’S benefit concert at Rubble’s – but don’t let this discourage you! Let’s work toward a great turn out. J

-Last night in the SGA Senate, Mariah and Alysha presented our legislation to the senators and lead a brief Q & A. Thank you for presenting, girls! The discussion will continue next Monday and hopefully be voted on. We’re going to discuss this in greater depth at tonight’s meeting.

-In honor of Valentine’s Day, during our meeting tonight we will be making flowers out of plastic water bottles! Grab a few water bottles from the recycling bins in Brooks on your way up to the second floor.

-We would love to form some stable committees with everyone working on a project. These could include petitions, fundraising, Earth week ideas, and more! If you are interested in anything specific just speak up.

-Derek Forgie, the MTV Comedian that does the bottled water skit has officially agreed to come to CMU on April 20, the Friday before Earth Week!

-Mariah and I met with Jane Wilsher to discuss supplying students with free reusable water bottles and she was very into the idea.

-THANK YOU to everyone who participated in RSO Spotlight Night! We met some great people and sparked some new interest.

-Don’t forget to keep selling those SFSL water bottles! Only 5 dollars and can be ordered online.
